The best skill to develop is inputting the reinforcements strategem as fast as humanly possible, theoretically if you're good enough with it (provided it's not on cooldown) you really can live forever, or at least and endless stream of replacements can. The shotgun seems really powerful but it's also super easy to kill your teammates on accident with it. Seems like most of the primary weapons are useful, but it varies tremendously depending on the mission difficulty/enemy. The APC and the Exo Walker are both quite good, but still relatively easy to lose to drop pods and so on. The grenade launcher is harder to use but really safe assuming you don't hit a wall with it, also it hits really hard. The MG is amongst the best possible strategems for earlier missions so stick with it, it's not quite as good later on since you eventually have to reload and that's the big issue with the gun. While it might seem initially disappointing the high powered rifle you get for buying the game early is pretty good on harder levels, especially against bugs. Robots seem like the easiest (read: still incredibly difficult), bugs are pretty annoying considering how tough the biggest ones are. Illuminate control switching guys are assholes and seem like the most dangerous enemy even though they're not "top tier" for that race as far as I can tell. The higher difficulties are totally insane at least on ugly planets though I'm sure with enough organization you could avoid popping most alarms. If I remember right, once I got into the Helldivers Config menu, it allowed me to remap the inputs.Since there isn't really a thread for this yet just curious what everyone's experiences have been. I think you may need to go into controller settings (Big Picture -> Settings Gear-> Controller Settings -> Enable Xbox config) first. Try Big Picture Mode -> Library -> Helldivers -> Manage Game -> Controller Configuration. Thanks for the help guys!Ĭan you please further explain where you changed this setting, I am experiencing this same issue and can't fully follow where you went to make this change. I'll actually test playing the game later today but as usual the simple solution is the correct one.ĭefinitely blaming Steam on this one but pretty stoked that it looks like I'll be able to play. I changed it to be the joystick and can move. The config actually did have my left joystick as the d-pad. I checked the controller config menu for the game itself within Steam, not the general controller settings or the controller settings in game. Originally posted by Sunshine:I think I may have figured it out. I rather doubt it's the issue here but I'm trying to think of anything that might contribute. Other hardware I was thinking maybe there could be issues with my GPU or something, I've seen in the past some games not working well with certain manufacturers/ models of cards. I've actually had other games that wouldn't play properly but worked when I launched from Big Picture but no such luck here. My primary method of playing games is from Steam normally (not BP and sitting at my desk) with a wired 360 controller. I've launched from Steam normally and from Big Picture, same result. So there is something which screws that.īTW - what 'other hardware' you have in mind? Steam Link or something else? Xbox controllers connected to PC should be issue-free. So if you were tempted into using it (advertised as 'controller friendly'), disable it and run Helldivers normally.Īlso I've seen people having issues with Steam Link. In this mode controllers goes crazy and the only known way to fix it for sure is to disable this mode while playing. On the other hand I'm using many Xbox360 and Xbox One wireless controllers (usually several at once) and never had a single issue in Helldivers.īut there is a well known problem - it's called Steam Big Picture mode.
